Emergency warning device to be installed in Lithopolis

The tornado siren, in Lithopolis, failed in June 2008. The siren ,which was purchased used around 1940, was unable to be repaired.   The Village of Lithopolis, Bloom Township Trustees and the Bloom Township Fire Department have be working together to research and purchase a new unit.  A new emergency warning device is schedule to be installed sometime in September of this year.  The warning siren should alert people who are outside of their homes and businesses.  The Bloom Township Fire Chief Terry Gill encourages all residents to purchase a NOAA Weather Alert Radio to receive emergency notifications while inside their homes, businesses and while they are asleep.

Bloom Township Firefighters Association recently added a light tower, new electrical generator and traction devices to our Fire Engine.  The cost of these additions total close to $30,000.  The Light Tower and Generator were mounted and installed by the firefighters.  The generator replaced a smaller unit which was purchased when the fire engine was new in 1985.  The light tower gives 3500 watts of additional lighting to our night time operations.  The traction control devices were added to assist us when road conditions are icy and snow covered.  The cost for these improvements came from profits from the fish fry, donations from the American Legion and from individuals.  We would like to thank everyone for their support!!!
